When it comes to the winter season, December is chockablock full of incredible experiences, especially because they come with a dose of holiday magic. But there is much more to the season… especially in the Okanagan!
Over the next few weeks, our valley is buzzing with a lineup of festivals and events you do not want to miss out on. From outdoor carnivals to warm, cozy indoor experiences, there’s everything from family-friendly fun to 19+ nights out.
It’s time to shake off that post-holiday fatigue and experience the Okanagan winter!

1. Vernon Winter Carnival, February 6th to 15th
Since 1961, Vernon’s Winter Carnival has been a storied annual event—Western Canada’s largest and North America’s second-largest winter carnival, to be exact. Thanks to over 100 community-driven events spanning everything from parades, interactive family fun, snow-sculpting, and more, it’s the perfect blend of après-style parties and neighbourly celebrations!
Most importantly, it’s got the beloved Hot Air Balloon Glow… Yep, you read that right, a bunch of hot air balloons will take to the winter sky with dazzling colours. This year it includes part of Team Carnival: Canada Goes for Gold celebration to spotlight true northern pride and community warmth. So bundle up, gather your supplies at the food trucks, and enjoy a spectacular sight.

2. Okanagan Hot Chocolate Festival, January 17th to February 15th
The fifth annual Okanagan hot chocolate festival is just around the corner… Founded in 2021 by local foodie sisters, Murissa and Taryn, it’s turned into a beloved way to spotlight locally owned and operated businesses across the Okanagan around one iconic winter drink.
You can expect festive and imaginative flavours, waiting for you at each and every participating destination. And today marks the launch of this year’s flavour map—with additional details, the full list of participating businesses, and all the festival announcements!

3. Fireside Festival, January 31st to February 1st
It’s officially time for Kelowna’s winter arts and music festival! This year, it’s entirely hosted at BNA. It’s an unforgettable weekend that ignites the pulse of the underground: house grooves, live art unfolding on stage, and heavy bass acts taking over the secret stage.
For two full days enjoy a weekend of connection, colour, and contrast. Included in the lineup are R&B, indie and psychedelic notes, and DJs closing off the show. You can choose between a pass for both nights, or whatever fits your fancy (and schedule).

4. Taste Around Dinner, January 21st to February 8th
Calling all foodies! Taste Around Dinner is back in Kelowna and Central Okanagan locations, offering 3-course menus from over 90 different restaurants, with prices starting from $25 to $70. It’s the perfect way to support local businesses without breaking the post-holidays budget…
Taste Around is all about highlighting different chefs, mixologists, and makers that bring more to the table than great food—they deliver an exceptional experience. So this is your sign to explore different flavours across our valley and discover your next favourite date-night spot!

When it comes to the winter season, the Okanagan more than delivers a stellar lineup of exciting events and experiences. It’s all about supporting local, amplifying community spirit, and enjoying that unique flavour our valley has to offer.
Cheers to winter, everyone!
