That Time We Went Missing (On Purpose) at Chute Lake Lodge

Nestled high above Okanagan Provincial Park and the Naramata Bench, Chute Lake Lodge is a historic mountain retreat where luxury rustic accommodation awaits. That’s why we purposefully went missing there last weekend—and want you to as well.

Introducing The Unplugged Escape: a two month-long campaign between Editors’ Picks OKANAGAN and Chute Lake Lodge. For all of April and May, you can book this package and experience an intentional weekend to help you truly disconnect to reconnect. For either 24, 48 or 72 hours, no one can reach you—and honestly, that’s the point.

With a curated welcome package including light, playful prompts, reflective questions, a relaxing playlist and more, this is everything you need to unplug over a cozy spring stay up in the mountains.

April is The Most Overlooked Month in the Okanagan

As locals, we truly believe April and May are the most overlooked months in the Okanagan, especially up at Chute Lake Lodge. Spring is pleasant and cool, with slowly warming temperatures ranging between 9°C to 15°C throughout the day—or as we like to call it: ideal weather.

As the fruit trees and flowers blossom across the valley, it’s the perfect time of year for early-season hikes, scenic drives along the lake and up the mountain, treks across the KVR, as well as quiet moments of contemplation when you sit together, fireside, with a glass of wine or warm cup of tea.

Essentially it’s everything we love about Naramata in one stop.

In terms of tourism, the crowds are thinner with little to no hustle and bustle, and the wine industry is relatively calm before the big summer season hits with tours and tastings.

April or May is a quiet oasis that feels like all of nature is yours for the taking.

The Beauty of Limited Cell Service: Benefits of a Digital Detox

One of the reasons we wanted to disappear up at Chute Lake is there is limited cell service. Now, before you panic, you can access free wifi in the lodge—but we’d like to softly encourage you to partake in a short breakup with your devices over this weekend.

Did you know there are numerous benefits to undergoing a digital detox?

  • Improved sleep
  • Higher productivity throughout the day
  • Stronger mental clarity and focus
  • Softened stress and anxiety
  • Healthier relationships and connectivity with loved ones

The constant strain our phones, emails, social media, and other technology plays on our overall well-being has plenty of scientific evidence to encourage you to slow down and let go. The beauty of limited cell service at Chute Lake Lodge is that this is already built into the experience. When the rest of the world can’t reach you, you get to spend some quality time with yourself, friends, or loved ones.

Why Quiet is the New Luxury

When was the last time you let yourself sit in silence? If even the thought makes you squirm with discomfort—you’re not alone. We have conditioned ourselves in today’s age to always be stimulated: endless notifications, that hum of the fridge, music in the background or a television playing a loop of the news.

So try something new with The Unplugged Escape: leave your phone in your luggage and settle outside with a cup of coffee as the sunshine breaks through the leaves. It’s not total silence, but an intentional pause. The wind ruffling the leaves, a spring breeze crossing the lake, and even the crackle of a fire are all sounds that soothe our nervous system. Think of this as a type of indulgence.

The Okanagan is no stranger to luxury. Our valley is home to exceptional experiences that are curated, classy, and sophisticated. The silence up at Chute Lake is just another example of this level of luxury, with a natural ambiance that can only be found at the top of the mountain.

This is at the heart of The Unplugged Escape.

The Value of Outdoor Exploration at Chute Lake Lodge

April and May are perfect months to set out and explore the unseen backcountry around Chute Lake thanks to the temperate weather of this beautiful season. Nestled above Naramata and Kelowna, they offer plenty of outdoor activities year-round at the lodge:

  • Kayaking
  • Paddleboarding
  • Motorboats
  • Canoes
  • E-bikes
  • Snowshoeing
  • Nordic skiing
  • Hiking

The best part? As a part of The Unplugged Escape, your package includes FREE watersport rentals for your entire stay, softly encouraging you to get out on the lake. While it’s a bit too early for a swim, there is something so relaxing about gliding across the calm waters.

If that’s not your style, the lodge has access to the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) trail right on property, positioning you steps away from a cool, spring walk amongst the trees. Maybe you want to get outdoors but without too much strenuous exercise? E-bikes offer the perfect mix of light activity without breaking a sweat, keeping things low-impact and relaxing. Just a bit down the trail and you’ll find yourself overlooking Okanagan Lake and one of the many stunning man-carved tunnels.

At the end of the day, unwind with a session in the private sauna and enjoy a romantic and intentional body reset with hot and cold therapy.

Food, Wine & Fireside Evenings

We’ve curated The Unplugged Escape with all your major needs in mind. After you unpack, head over to the lodge for a welcome glass of wine or a cocktail and settle into the rustic charm only found up in the mountains.

You’re here. You made it. Now you can relax.

Chute Lake also comes fully stocked with a restaurant serving up truly classic Canadiana Lodge food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu changes each season, giving you a taste of our bountiful valley and staying within the ebbs and flows of what’s fresh. Add on an optional three-course dinner to your package at booking and sink into those moments of connection that only food and wine bring, especially here in the Okanagan.

To further encourage intentionality, we’ve also curated a list of questions meant to help you look inwards while sitting together, fireside. With bundles of wood available for purchase, you can cozy up with a blanket and your own bottle of wine while the stars come out and really get to those moments of reflection.

When was the last time you checked in with yourself, and your loved one? Now’s your chance.

This April or May, get lost at Chute Lake Lodge and enjoy a historic mountain retreat where the outside world can’t find you. Wander amongst the trees, listen to the gently lapping waters, wrap yourself in a blanket beside the fire, and really disconnect in order to reconnect.
