5 Okanagan-Worthy Winter Activities

If you’re anything like us here at Editors’ Picks OKANAGAN, you’re, well, a little tired of winter. The doom and gloom grey clouds, plus the slushy, ugly weather—it just makes you crave spring! But we’ve still got almost a month to go before the flowers start bloomin’…

So what’s a girl to do?

Thankfully, we’ve got you. There are plenty of exciting things to do in the Okanagan to combat these winter blues— which we cover each week in our e-newsletter—but we especially wanted to highlight a handful of cozy, perfect experiences you won’t want to miss out on. All five are seasonal, so don’t wait to get out and go explore our beautiful valley!

1. Fireside Fondue at Mission Hill Family Winery

Allow yourself to unwind for an hour or two this winter with Mission Hill’s cozy Fireside Fondue.

Set up in an exclusive Private Salon, this intimate culinary experience invites you and a group of family or friends to enjoy a carefully curated selection of artisanal breads, meats, vegetables, and fresh fruit, each perfectly paired with rich, melted fondue and complemented by award-winning wines.

Start your trip with a welcome glass of sparkling rosé followed by a two-course journey of warm, rich cheese and decadent dark chocolate. Let the smooth jazz and warm aesthetic of the room lull your worries away so you can focus on being present.

Minimum of 8 people, and perfect for groups up to 12, this private affair offers a unique opportunity for an unforgettable evening. Offered as seasonal only—so don’t miss out!

2. Löyly Floating Sauna: AKA the Perfect Spa Day

Nordic countries just understand that winter goes hand-in-hand with a sauna, and thankfully, Kelowna’s Löyly Floating Sauna is the perfect place to feel a bit Finnish while still staying within the Okanagan Valley.

Relax and unwind over a rejuvenating experience that allows you to detox and de-stress all while enjoying stunning lakeside views. The warm, calming heat of the sauna combined with the crisp winter air and peaceful waters provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of regular life.

Whether you’re seeking relaxation or a unique adventure, Löyly Floating Sauna is a must-visit for anyone looking to revitalize their body and mind this February.

3. Dome Dining at Frind Estate Winery

From now until March, you can experience a picture-perfect winter dining experience at Frind Estate when you book one of their idyllic lakeside Domes. Whether with someone special or just friends, immerse yourself in a unique dining venue between 2pm all the way until their final seating at 7:30pm.

Available Wednesday through Sunday, you can watch the sun dip behind the mountains while sampling from their delicious winter men—we’re partial to the burrata!

Their happy hour also features three different wine flights—perfect for newcomers to get acquainted with Frind’s style of winemaking. Be sure to stop by on Wednesday’s for their pasta specials…

4. Skate Away at the District Wine Village

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the only time you celebrate love this February—consider a date day at Oliver’s District Wine Village for some romance! During the winter months they turn their space into a beginner-friendly rink where you can live your Ice Princess dreams and finish off your skate with a variety of tastings. The rink is available Friday through Sunday, from 12 to 5pm.

The District Wine Village homes eight different wineries, two breweries, one restaurant, a bakeshop, and a bookstore! Because why not? This is the perfect place to spend the day soaking in the charming winter ambiance of the South Okanagan. You can even warm up with s’mores and the fire at the Ward’s Wine Country Kitchen.

5. Day Trip to Chute Lake Lodge

Nestled high above Naramata, Chute Lake Lodge is the perfect weekend destination for a day spent out and about snowshoeing. Walk between the trees and enjoy the dusted boughs while you breathe in the crisp, mountain air.

After your outdoor excursion, head indoors to their restaurant for a well-deserved delicious and cozy winter meal! Only available Friday through Sunday, we highly suggest you try their seasonal eats and cocktails while there!

And if you want to extend your escape, we wouldn’t blame you! Their cabins are the perfect backdrop to decompress from everyday life. And they even currently have a sauna!

However you celebrate these final weeks of winter, we hope you get out and experience the wonders our valley has to offer. We’re so lucky to call this special slice of heaven our home.
